Classic Symptoms of Diabetes

Should be known, they are allies in the diagnosis of new patients and elements of alarm when the patient’s metabolic control is not good.

The classic symptoms of diabetes are known as the four Ps are:

  • Polyuria or increased urine output during the day. Record is important that other diseases can also cause this symptom.
  • Polydipsia: a consequence of prior (urinating too much the patient has dehydration stimulates the thirst center in the brain and this leads him to drink plenty of fluids). You are concerned that diseases such as diabetes insipid us may also have this symptom.
  • Polyphagia or appetite exaggeration: among other things caused by the loss of calories by glucose eliminated in the urine; aqua the patient is fed, the body’s cells have no glucose (energy) and stimulates appetite.
  • Weight loss or thinning: a consequence of such difficulties experienced by the glucose to enter cells which end up eliminated in the urine (glucosuria). So far the patient, e.g. thin.
