In these time we started talking about hepatitis, an infection or inflammation of the liver. Highlight its main symptoms and signs to recognize the disease and how to prevent it. Today we’ll hepatitis E.

Hepatitis E is similar to hepatitis A since the infection also occurs through fecal-oral contamination. Hepatitis E is most common in underdeveloped countries, low social economic status and poor hygiene as the main route of transmission is fecal contamination of water for human use and consumption.

The other channel of contagion (as in hepatitis A) is through food intake. Vegetables, fruit and seafood (like shrimp and lobster) can also transmit hepatitis if they were harvested in contaminated water or unsanitary conditions. The main symptoms of hepatitis E are the same as in the case of hepatitis A:

  • Dark urine
  • Stool clear
  • Yellow skin

The incubation period ranges from 15 to 40 days.
