frugivores or fruitarian

We have already spoken in here about vegans, a stream of vegetarianism which advocates avoiding the use of dairy products, eggs and meat, in short, any food of animal origin. I have always considered this type of “food quirks” a little unfounded and unnecessary, although I must admit that enjoy great popularity among people today.

There is another strand in vegetarianism, and if I seemed radical vegans and capricious, children belonging to this current cause me the same feeling but much larger. These are fruit bats (or fruitarian), a current food advocated that consumption of fruit.

Those who consider focusing their frugivorous diet of fruit, so they claimed back to natural eating habits of prehistoric man, who, in his opinion, was unaware of legumes and vegetables and a vegetarian, perception is completely wrong and unfounded and denies that archeology.

The fruit fruitarian consider as the food base, and give them great importance in their daily intake, can consume more than 300 grams of nuts and even a kilo of fresh fruit.

Fruit divided into three groups:

  • Acid (tomato, orange, tangerine, lemon, lime, grapefruit, strawberries, kiwi, gooseberry, raspberry, sour apple and pineapple).
  • Semi-acid or semisweet (fresh figs, apricots, mangos, sweet apples, sweet cherries, plums, peach, pear, nectarine)
  • Sweet (figs, bananas, dates, dried apricots, fresh grapes and raisins, dried apples, persimmons, prunes)

Personally, despite not being a vegetarian and do not share these common food, I must say that I respect the personal choices in this regard. However, I must point out something. A diet like this is terribly unbalanced, and if you want to follow need to consult a nutritionist who will advise you to do so.
